Final Gifts by Christopher P. Vogt, Patience Compassion Hope And The Christian Art Of Dying Well Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Patience Compassion Hope And The Christian Art Of Dying Well books, By mining the rich tradition of virtue ethics, Christopher Vogt uses the virtues of patience, compassion, and hope as a framework for specifying the shape of a good death, and for naming the practices Christians should develop to live well and die well. Bringing together historical, biblical, and contemporary sources in Christian ethics, Vogt provides a long-overdue theological analysis of the ars moriendi or "art of dying" literature of four centuries ago. Through a careful analysis of Luke's passion narrative, Vogt uses Jesus as the primary model for being patient in the face of death and for dying well.

Encountering Life S Endings

Final Gifts by Louis Silverstein, Encountering Life S Endings Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Encountering Life S Endings books, If you wish to live well, practice dying. Death and dying are universal human experiences. All that lives is transitory and will depart this life. Encountering Life’s Endings encompasses the practical, psychological, philosophical, cultural and spiritual aspects of dying and death viewed through the prism of the passing of the author’s mother (94), father (89), brothers Al (69), Joe (46), Eddie (44) and numerous friends and colleagues. Interspersed throughout the book are the thoughts and insights of leading figures in the field of thanatology as well as diverse and illuminating teachings by eastern and western sages and spiritual teachers, ranging from Thich Nhat Hanh to Stanley Keleman. Readers are provided with meditations and visualizations that serve to lessen the pain and suffering associated with death and dying, thus enhancing the possibility of experiencing the last stages of our lives as a final gift to self and others. Other types of life’s endings are also dealt with in this book. For example, the death of love; facing the possible death of a child, the necessity of allowing parts of ourselves to die in order to be more fully alive; birth as a form of dying; letting go of pain and suffering in order to experience pleasure; the casting off of normality to attain sanity; and the dying of the earth, Written largely in the form of a personal narrative, hearts will open, emitting compassion for all sentient beings, and minds engaged, resulting in the deepening of how we think about, approach and experience the ebb and flow of our lives. ********************************* Louis Silverstein’s Encountering Life’s Endings: Practice Dying Live Well offers compelling testimony about basic but overlooked truths. As someone who has experienced the tragic, untimely death of a child, I have searched far and wide for words that would help me to process and recover from such profound loss. With beautifully descriptive prose, Silverstein provides guidance and wisdom, delving deeply into what is for the most part unspeakable in Western culture—the relationship between life and death. It is a gentle and honest book that weaves personal narrative with illuminating teachings from a variety of spiritual writers that provide the tools for transforming suffering into strength. Alvina Quintana, Associate Professor Women’s & Latin American Studies, University of Delaware In his fearless exploration into the meaning of dying and death, Louis weaves his way through a maze of tragic historic and current family losses, makings stops along the way in a sensuous paradise of philosophic wisdom. The answers found and the meanings revealed are richly satisfying, as is the journey through the book. Loretta Downs, Founder, Chrysalis End-Of-Life Inspirations In this personal account of meeting the death of others, Silverstein brings to light how we can imagine dying and wonder about our own. People will be moved by this book and gain insights. Stanley Keleman, The Center For Energetic Studies If you wish to live fully, practice dying is the Platonic advice that grounds much of Louis Silverstein’s pithy and personal guide for turning our fears of death and dying into explorations of the of the arts of living: forgiveness, creativity and love. Reflecting on his years of study and teaching and his own experiences with death and dying in his family, he offers us insight into how death awakens emotional and spiritual reserves that not only open the gates of grief and provide healing, but also miraculously shatter the life-long patterns of thinking that contributes to the real tragedy in life-- death of our spirit. Ritual In Human Evolution And Religion

Final Gifts by Matt J. Rossano, Ritual In Human Evolution And Religion Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Ritual In Human Evolution And Religion books, This book explores the role of ritual in social life, human evolution, and religion. It explains the functions and purpose of varied rituals across the world by arguing they are mechanisms of ‘resource management’, providing a descriptive tool for understanding rituals and generating predictions about ritual survival. By showing how rituals have resulted from the need to cultivate social resources necessary to sustain cooperative groups, Rossano presents a unique examination of the function of rituals and how they cultivate, mobilize, and direct psychological resources. Rossano examines rituals from a diverse range of historical contexts, including the Greco-Romans, Soviet Russians, and those in ‘crisis cults’. The book shows how rituals address societal and community problems by cultivating three psychological resources – commitment to communal values, goodwill (both of humans and supernatural agents) and social support or social capital. Holding communities together in the face of threat, disaster, or apathy is one of ritual’s primary functions, and the author describes how our ancestors used ritual to become the highly social, inter-dependent primate that is Homo sapiens. Including examples from all over the world and providing detailed descriptions of both past and current ritual practices, this is fascinating reading for students and academics in psychology, sociology, religion, anthropology, and sociology.

Leadership Paradigms In Chaplaincy

Final Gifts by Joel Graves, Leadership Paradigms In Chaplaincy Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Leadership Paradigms In Chaplaincy books, This dissertation argues that business people, clergy, lay persons, and many chaplains do not understand the leadership and management dynamics of chaplaincy, and this lack of knowledge has a direct impact on how chaplaincy is done and not done in certain areas. In chaplaincy and many churches, leadership, management, and ministry have a synergistic effect when they come together in response to a problem or crisis. An understanding of chaplaincy dynamics, scope, methods, possibilities, and issues in relation to this effect is vital to this growing field in four areas: Helps prepare people for ministry as chaplains, whether clergy or lay; benefits those already in chaplaincy ministry; helps clergy reexamine their ministry to determine if they are where God wants them; serves to teach everyone, including upper-level management and senior church leaders of the roles, actual or potential, that chaplains can fill in response to the growing needs of people.

Gifts Of The Visitation

Final Gifts by Denise Bossert, Gifts Of The Visitation Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download Gifts Of The Visitation books, The biblical encounter between the Virgin Mary and her cousin Elizabeth, before the births of Jesus and John the Baptist, is at the heart of Gifts of the Visitation by popular speaker and syndicated columnist Denise Bossert. She uses their story to highlight nine gifts experienced by both women as they awaited the arrival of their sons and to encourage readers to develop these gifts themselves. In her debut book, speaker, columnist, and Catholic convert Denise Bossert showcases the seasons of birth, grief, newness, and challenge experienced in the hearts of Mary and Elizabeth at the Visitation and invites readers to see these times in their own lives as opportunities to let God make all things new. Within each of those seasons, nine gifts emerge—spontaneity, courage, joy, readiness, humility, adventure, hospitality, wonder and awe, and thanksgiving—equipping readers to present Christ to the world as Mary and Elizabeth did. Bossert's encounter with Mary, which led her to Catholicism, serves as the window for discovering and exploring the gifts and helps readers look inside their own hearts to discover what the gifts of the visit between Mary and Elizabeth mean to them and how they can be Christ-bearers to others.

Final Gifts by Carla Wills-Brandon, One Last Hug Before I Go Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download One Last Hug Before I Go books, Death is one of life’s greatest mysteries. Over the years, the bestseller lists have contained many works on death-related phenomena: Betty Eadie’s Embraced by the Light; James Van Praagh’s Talking to Heaven; and Raymond Moodie’s Life After Life, are just a few. One Last Hug Before I Go is the first book to explore in depth the Deathbed Vision (DBV). Complete with the author’s own encounters and those of over forty other DBV experiencers, this revolutionary work provides research information from the early twentieth century through the present. Included are: survivors’ detailed accounts of their departed loved one’s visions and final words; the survivors’ mystical experiences and premonitions preceding a loved one’s passing; accounts of seeing the soul leave the body; and after-death communications. These final words and visions from the dying provide a poignant, final farewell hug to loved ones, offering peace of mind and hope for an eventual reunion. After finishing this fascinating book, readers will come away with a better understanding and acceptance of the process of death and see it as a spiritual adventure, not a sad and fearful ending to life.

The Languages Of Gift In The Early Middle Ages

Final Gifts by Wendy Davies, The Languages Of Gift In The Early Middle Ages Books available in PDF, EPUB, Mobi Format. Download The Languages Of Gift In The Early Middle Ages books, This book is a collection of original essays on gift in the early Middle Ages, from Anglo-Saxon England to the Islamic world. Focusing on the languages of gift, the essays reveal how early medieval people visualized and thought about gift, and how they distinguished between the giving of gifts and other forms of social, economic, political and religious exchange. The same team, largely, that produced the widely cited The Settlement of Disputes in Early Medieval Europe (Cambridge University Press, 1986) has again collaborated in a collective effort that harnesses individual expertise in order to draw from the sources a deeper understanding of the early Middle Ages by looking at real cases, that is at real people, whether peasant or emperor. The culture of medieval gift has often been treated as archaic and exotic; in this book, by contrast, we see people going about their lives in individual, down-to-earth and sometimes familiar ways.
